Hedgehogs are real diggers and love to bathe in the sand! It’s a good way to care for their coat and skin, as the sand will remove any dead dander and help get rid of any external parasites. And a sand bath may remain permanently in the accommodation, unlike a water bath. It is quite simple to make a sandbox. You need a container, for example a kitten toilet or a rabbit toilet, and sand. The sand should only be suitable for hedgehogs, because it should not be too sharp. Chinchilla sand or play sand are the best options for hedgehogs, because with these types of sand the grains are rounded and therefore cannot cause damage to the skin or eyes. Chinchilla sand abroad can sometimes be dusty, but in the Netherlands all brands are suitable for this.
